SVG in responsive and adaptive web pages

Hi,

It looks as if I'm going to have to update my old website and make it responsive or adaptive. I'm starting with a new section about a series of novels I'm writing. I'm planning on having a banner header in one page that I've designed in SVG. Now, it should be possible to insert it in the page so it changes size to fit the page but how exactly do I do this?
