Lookup

I am having issues with Xalan lookup function. When I pass a string 'key s=
tring' to the lookup function, it works. When I pass a variable, it does n=
ot find the answer. I print out the variable, so I know the value of the v=
ariable is the same as the string I tried that worked.
Has anyone else had this issue?
