Re: Xerces-p Installation on AIX 5.1

While trying to install XML-Xerces-2.3.0-4 on AIX 5.1.0.0 , Iam ending up getting compilation errors, I have tried with all compilers like cc , xlC_r but I could not install the perl Wrapper successfully.

I have tried with Xerces-c source (un installed as well as installed )and binary for AIX but ended up getting same compilation errors while trying to install xerces-p. I could install xerces-c using xlC_r compiler and I am using the same compiler for Xerces-p also.

perl Makefile.PL
make
make test
make install

For step 2 (make) I had to use gmake instead of make (as make -C option of make is not a valid option on AIX machines.

I would like to know

1. If any one had installed both Xerces-c and xerces-p (2.3.0) on AIX 5.0.0 , If so I would like to know what C and C++ compilers were used.

2. Can I get the Binary for Xerces-P for AIX systems.

Thanks

Sekhar

Correct the -C option is only valid for GNU make (sometimes installed
as gmake on proprietary Unix systems).

Yes, Xerces.cpp is a *big* C++ file and if you are compiling with
optimization (-O, -O1, -O2 ...) it will take a *long* time. If you
need to speed things up for testing use -g instead.

Perhaps one of the other AIX folks on the list could help with this
compile line - just to make sure it's got the correct compiler flags.

If you are going to use the AIX binary of Xerces-C, you *must* use the
same C++ compiler that they used or you will almost certainly get
undefined symbol errors - just something to be aware of. I believe
they list the compilers they use on the WWW site.

I take it that this is only some of the errors and not all of them?
It is very strange because there is a mix of Xerces-C symbols,
e.g. DOMException and XMLException, XML-Xerces symbols,
e.g. PerlCallbackHandler, and system symbols, e.g. pure_virtual and
rethrow.

You may want to download and build Xerces-C from source and see if
that helps.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Cheers,
jas.
