Correct way to reference ELEMENT_NODE in XML::Xerces?

Hi:
 
I can't figure out how to correctly reference the ELEMENT_NODE field in my Perl script which uses XML::Xerces.
 
I've tried a few different ways but none seem acceptable to Perl.
 
I'm temporarily skirting the issue, as follows, but want to do it correctly, of course:
 

use constant ELEMENT_NODE => 1; # TODO: Proper Xerces syntax for ELEMENT_NODE
