Thanks for your response. I am using Tomcat V5. I am using 8888 not 8080. I used 3 slashes because that is what was used in the example. I have actually tried 2 slashes and pretty much every combination of URI imaginable. I am running out of ideas!

  and one more
  why are using 3 slashes after xmldb:xindice(xmldb:xindice:///)??
  there should be only 2 (xmldb:xindice://)
