the other way to do it that would not require chnage in API 
is to have a feature that can be turned on to request 
that attribute values are not escaped, something like:
http://xmlpull.org/v1/doc/features.html#http://xmlpull.org/v1/doc/features.html#serializer-attvalue-raw
