Help with date:difference

Hi,

I have successfully used the date:difference but there is some problem with 
the output. The output is shown in xs:duration format. I need to convert the 
duration into the number of months. I am using gYearMonth as my date format. 
i.e. 2004-09.

For example if the duration is P7Y8M i.e. 7 Years and 8 Months. I need a 
function which can automatically give me the result as 7x12 + 8 = 92 Months. 
OR I am looking to transform this date to more readable output not the 
xs:duration output.

I looked into format-date template but it does not accept the xs:duration 
format.
