incorporation of exslt Math functions into xslt

Hi List,

I am wondering about the relationship between EXSLT and the
XPath / XSLT spec.  First of all, it seems to me that math
functions are fundamental to any programming language, so why
does XSLT exclude them, for the most part?  Does exslt.org
submit requirements to the w3c regarding XSLT spec evolution?
Do they tend to respond to these requirements?
