What _should_ we be doing with bibliographic data (Was: Slightly OT: MARC)

We (http://www.nzetc.org/) are a digital publisher using topic maps extensively (for people, works, images, logical sections of works, places, etc, etc). We distribute our works packaged as ePub format eBooks. The format allows us to include extra data files into them. Currently the only 'extra' metadata we ship with is as many identifiers as possible (see previous in thread on the non-uniqueness of unique identifiers). Given that we can't put our entire topic map into every ePub (due to size constraints), what should we include, in what formats and how are others (specifically other topic maps people) likely to use it?
