Well, I was introduced to Topic Maps when I was soliciting for a 
position in Space Applications Services (actually by the job advert). 
However, Topic Maps was there because Richard Aked - one of our 
directors - suggested to use Topic Maps in the AIOBCT project (our early 
question answering system over topic maps) [1][2].

And Richard himself cannot remember how he was introduced to Topic Maps.

So here you are - an unresolved connection.
