Re: Arcs

Sorry, I'm late to the party... trying to respond to the essential points.

Two important points:
First, my proposal was not a paper but part of the discussion about
features of TMCL, i.e. something on top of TMDM which may make
modeling for end users easier.

Second, i was not proposing to use subject/object or from/to roles but
the same roles one would use in Topic Maps now. The idea is to
annotate the existing association signatures where an association
signature is, in it's simplest form the tuple (association type, role
type 1, role type 2). This could/should be extended by scope, but not
by reifier, because the reifier is about the association instance.
Also, the primary idea was mostly to define names for arcs, similarily
to how Ontopia models the directed naming of associations: a name
attached to the association type scoped by one of the role types,
depending on the direction.

Additionally, I'd like to point out that I didn't choose the name
"arcs". I was trying to explain the above concept and when Graham got
it, he said (paraphrased): "Ah, you want to propose 'arcs'. I did this
7 years ago and it was decided not to do arcs in TMCL back then. This
should be done in a different standard (which may be ISO or not)".
