Hi Gabriel,

I agree with what you said. I know the linkedin group
is not designed as a replacement, but the fact it exists is
great in this period where we may have to terminate this
list. On the one hand, the important thing is that topic maps is still 
an ongoing subject of discussions, not so much where it takes
place. On the other hand, I recognize that some of the list's 
subscribers may want the discussions to be done independently
of a social or professional network, and I recognize the value
of having an independent list.

The problem we are facing is that the number of fake subscriptions we 
are receiving prevents my and other administrators' email system to work 
properly and disrupts our normal operation. As long as we don't know if 
there is a fix, and considering that the traffic has considerably slowed 
down in the recent months/years it looks like shutting down the list may 
not be too painful, even if I wouldn't have
done it in normal circumstances.

We have an archive of the list since the 2nd quarter of 2000.
I agree that the archive should remain publicly available.
We are looking into ways to make it happen.
