and I'm encouraged now to keep poking at it.  I'll look at PyYaml
as an example, as you suggested.

But only in the case the type tag was explicitly given in the file, right?
I assume you're referring to the tag field of the event struct.  This is
null if no explicit tag was given, so it's up to the higher level layers
to do the type resolution in this case.  Have i missed something here?
