Psych is 30 times slower than Syck - at least under Ruby (1.9.3 vs 1.8.7)

Dear friends:

This simple script

#!/usr/bin/env ruby.<version>
require 'yaml'
t=Time.now
YAML.load_file(<path>)
puts Time.now-t

takes at least 30 times longer to execute
with <version>=1.9 than with <version>=1.8
where <path> points to a YAML file of about 50kB.

Who is in charge of the Ruby binding ?

Is there hope that we will get back the
speed of Ruby1.8 ?

Best regards, Joachim
