merging into previously merged anchor?

Hi,

I am wondering if there is a way to do:

list: &list
  item_1: some item
  item_2: some other item

list_container:
  <<: *list
  list:
    item_3: an item specific for this list container

...

If I try to do this sort of then, list_container will have a list with
only one item in it, because it overwrites the previously merged list--
so I am wondering how I can just append item_3 to that merged list?  Is
this possible?
