Of course, vala could, if you choose that, create set of things that are pure C.
(valac is used to compile directly...)

So it appears to me that Vala is compatible with C based libs.

So, try plain "libyaml" or ie the C based YAML library. It should work
for you. Sounds like you might need to learn more about Vala too :)
