YAML alive and well? version 1.3 supported anywhere?

Hi folks,

I'm advocating YAML as file format in a project I work on.  I just wanted
to check in and get a read on how alive it is.  I notice the parsers don't
claim version 1.3 support for example.

I'd rather YAML than JSON since I find JSON kind of clunky and I've not
been all that impressed with JSON parsers in some languages (language
coverage is the major point of the exercise).

Is YAML still a good choice?
