minutes of july dev meet

Hi! guyz

 here are the minutes of dev meet conducted on 25th
july.

 The meet started with a discussion on how this month
some people were in dark about date of this meet.

 We discussed the connectivity problem several
corporates are facing. It has been noticed that
several enterprises have their
offices/branches/prodution units in remote villages of
the country and they face a problem in connecting all
the offices. At places they can only get a internet
connection of 1kbps. This lead to discussion on how to
design applications to take care of this scenario. We
ended up deciding that either you write your own
protocol or you can use UDP. If you use UDP you will
have to implement checksum after certain number of
packets to ensure data integrity.

 At the end of this discussion Raj shekhar landed up
with his presentation on "image manipulation and
publishing using php"

 So we arranged a PC and after installing couple of
packages shskhar started his presentation. 
 Raj shekhar introduced us to imgae manipulation
function of PHP. How you can create images in PHP and
how you can manipulate existing images. He introduced
us to his company's website www.netphotograph.com.
This  website is used to sell photograhs over net.

 Raj demonstrated image creation by creating a
rectangular button from scratch. He then explained
couple of industry standards such as Exif ad iptc and
demonstrated how iptc can be used to store and extract
information about an image. The information includes
title, name of photographer, shoot date, copyright
etc. 

 There was a small discussion on a search technique
used by someone to search photographs. As i am not
been able to recall much i will like any one of the
attendees to elaborate on this.

 So raj showed us some more demos of image
manipulation. He showed how you can resize images to
show a thumbnail or mid size image. He also showed a
program which generated an analog clock image after
reading time from system.

 After the end of gyan by raj shekhar we ordered a
pizza and watched a comedy movie and came back home.

 And yes somewhere between we decided about next
months meet also, so please read the mail containg
next months plan.
