Getopts variations(Interesting question!)!!!!

Hi all,

While making a shell scipts We can use getopts to
understand options passed by user very
comfortably.

We can easily understand when user passs
something like this:- 
./myscript.sh -a anything -p -kt 

My question is how can we understand something
like "--any-status" or big strings passed by the
user.

My application want user to pass "--any-status"
when he wants to view the status.

Please Suggest.
