 As far as sockets are concerned nothing beats TCP/Ip
by stevans. For thread you need to understand thread
handling for the language and platform you are working
in. Linux implements posix standard for threading
(correct me if i am wrong). 
 Stevens book has some examples of writing threaded
network servers.
