1. ALP (Advanced Linux Programming) by Mark Mitchell, Jeffrey Oldham, and Alex
Samuel has a chapter for linux threads which gives a good introduction to
posix threads. Its a free download from the net.

2. O'reilly's PThreads Programming. Its a great read.

Programming with POSIX Threads by David Butenhof is also a good book.

3. "UNIX Network Programming" (UNP) and
4. "Advanced Programming for the UNIX Environment" (APUE) by Richard Stevens
are two amazing books which you must read to join the UNP bandwagon.

get UNIX Network Programming, Volume 1: The Sockets Networking API, Third
Edition by Richard Stevens for sockets. Its part 2 covers elementary sockets
and part 3 covers advanced sockets.
