As I said in my last mail, I'd opt for open source. I simply like the
philosophy of open source (credit goes to Sandy for taking his time out
and introducing us to the values of open source and Linux). Windows is
nothing but a black box to the user. He (the user) may not bother at
all. But I'm into this computer field and having an urge to learn better
way of doing things and to learn out of everyday chores, what would I
learn using windows or any other closed-source software. I'd have to
admit that I was using windows - or MS OS, I'd say - since around 1993 -
DOS -> win 3.1 -> win 95 -> win 98 -> .... And I started using Linux
from second year, or early third year. But I know what I've learned
using Linux than from using MS OSs over several years.

In Linux, everything is limpid, crystal clear - you know what every
component in your OS is doing, and since you are confronted with those
components on regular basis you (or atleast I) get more inquisitive to
know more about it and thus more learning!! What will I learn out of
that closed source OS, even if its higher in performance?

For me - a wannabe computer specialist - I think I'd even pay to get
open source software. Because source has power - power to change, power
to inspire!

Best,
AG
