salam alykom

linux comes with a predefined mail server (sendmail)
for localhost use only but you can reconfigure it to
use worldwide.

just a few steps will let you ready to use it as your
mail server:
- first step is to be sure that the name resolusion on
the server is running correctly ( i mean hostnames to
ip address mapping is working fine) and this is the
most important part bacuse the sendmail will not
running on wrong name resolusion.
- second step is to edit the /etc/mail/sendmail.mc
file and comment the line which containing the
loopback address 127.0.0.1 (note hat the commenting in
this file by inserting "dnl" string before the line
- third step is to allow relaying to all machines by
editing the /etc/mail/access file and allow relaying
to all amchines.
- final step is to compile the file by typing the
following command:
 shell # make -C /etc/mail
 shell # service sendmail reload

that's all

also you have a very nice mail servers called postfix
and qmail but i know sendmail

for POP and IMAP servers you have to install them and
enable them on the startup services, they don't need
any configurations

also you have webmail interface called squirrelmail
and it's pretty nice

and you have spamassassin for spam mail

all are working fine also with IPv6

thank you
