RE: RedHat as Mail Server

First of all dear ahmed,

you need to specify the following:

1) what will be the name of your server, if you haven't yet register a domain, please go to do that

2) make a record for your mail server in the name server of your domain, which points to the IP ( real IP ) which you will assign for your mail server; note that this is an mx record.

now the configuration of the mail server is very simple:

- there is some configuration need to be done in the sendmsil.cf file, but my recommendation is to avoid editing the sendmail.cf file or even sendmail.mc file which used to change setting in the sendmail.cf file, avoiding that is by installing webmin, and doing the following configuration in the "sendmail configuration" module:

1) type your domain name(ex: SySDSoft.com in the "Local Domains (Cw) "

2) type your domain again in the "Outgoing Domains (CG) " module or what you want to be your out going domain.

3) if your network is a domain networked type that domain in the "Relay Domains (CR) ", if your network is a workgroups you need to type the IP ranges of your company in this field.

4) enable POP3 & IMAP services throught the Xinetd daemon.

5) craete users who you want them to use the email; don't forgest to make them members of the group "mail".

dont' forget to make a record for you server name in the /etc/hosts,

Client side installation:

configure the outgoing (smtp) server in the e-mail client, like outlook express, eudoura,...

as your mail server name or IP address and do the same thing for the incoming ( POP3 or IMAP) server and continue the simple traditional configuration

dont forget to check the box which states "leave copy of the message on the server" in the advanced tab when you check the property of that account as:

from the tool bar choose the tools menu > account > properity
