Um, my read in that LUKS is the only filesystem encryption they'll
automatically work natively with, not that it's mandatory (your
initial mention can be read as it being required).
Also, for full disk encryption, you can also read partition, see 2.2
on https://gitlab.com/cryptsetup/cryptsetup/wikis/FrequentlyAskedQuestions#2-setup
the practical upshot is that cryptsetup wants a block device, the less
complicated the better, and /dev/sdb2 does reasonably well for that.

I currently have SparkleShare up and running for some personal stuff,
it's self hosted using a git repo and I've not managed to get android
cover working.
I suppose there's GoogleDrive.
There was AmazonDrive but they seem to have slammed the door on Linux support.
I looked at SpiderOak back in the day (searches) Hrm, trigger word
front and center...

Of course that's the other aspect, I tend to separate data between
SparkleShare and Dropbox, where the later is stuff I'm less sensitive
about and frequently it's so that I can do trivial transfer from phone
pictures to long term storage.
