 & they dont have a stripped down CLI distro
product (except for embedded stuff!)
 This is probably some custom stuff they did or gave on Acer demand,
with Acer specifically demanding a stripped down thing - & not give a
full desktop.
 As a company Acer could well have a full installed & configured
Linux desktop on the laptops, Linpus etc would do them a good job at
getting things preconfigured.
 While reducing the cost may be Acers motive, but the bigger question
is them selling hardware which is not functional when bought? by this
i mean at least the basic hardware - cd drives,
lan, modem, wifi etc should be working with the software installed,
even if it may not have a functional desktop & applications.
