Hi all,

Drupal, an open source content management system based on PHP has recently released stable version 4.7. To put it rather eloquently from our PR blurb,

[quote]
More than five years, 13 major releases, 30+ servicing firms employing 100+ Drupal professionals, 300+ third party modules, and over 55,000+ Drupal powered sites later, Drupal 4.7.0 is finally here and it rocks!

It is however, a sad fact that there is practically no Indian language support for it yet. Sure, there have been efforts at a Punjabi and Bengali translation, but apart from these (and to the best of my knowledge, they're not too complete), other dominant languages from the sub continent are yet to show up. Hindi, for instance, hardly scores amongst the top languages in web use, atleast where Drupal (or other systems like Joomla) are concerned. I can't speak for Zope or other CMSs which may or may not be seeing active contributions of course.

This email is just to point out to the community that there does exist a huge gap in language support which we should do well to fill. Or if you prefer, this is a call for volunteers! Anybody interested in contributing can email me for details, and get in touch with the folks at #drupal on irc.freenode.net. Hopefully, we can end the next release cycle with many more indian languages bundled in!

Cheers,
Viksit
