It boils down to a question of trust then, doesn't it?  How much do you 
trust the FSF?  How much do you trust the Gnome development leads?  How 
much do you trust Apple?

I personally would expect the FSF to be the last one to knuckle under 
and release some software for which they have complete copyright under 
a non-GNU license; it's still a danger, though.
