If you look at the price of that System76 laptop, you will realise
that they are literally robbing you. Look at the configuration for
approx $900. They are giving Celeron, 512MB, 40GB etc. And look at
what HP is giving for roughly $790 (checkout bestbuy.com), AMD 64
Turion mobile, 2GB, 160GB, 5-in-one card reader and all the other
stuff including integrated camera etc with Windows VISA Home
Premium. And not only HP, I found several better deal with much less
price here in San Francisco while I was looking for a laptop for my
friend.

I would buy that and install linux myself.

Companies giving linux as pre-installed (not sure about big names like
Dell and Lenevo) think that they are doing a specialized job and hence
charge a premium for it. This is going to do more harm then good for
GNU/Linux. People will prefer to buy windows based as they will be
cheaper.

Ofcourse none of that applies to India, but I just wanted to inform you all.
