[LIH] GCC latest stable version ?

Hi !
Which is the latest stable and good GCC version for production use ( will be mostly used on Database projects - mySQL/PHP not required ).

I assume GCC 4.2.2 has some Input/Outpur Errors and issues.
OS will be RHL or Debian.

** By the way, I observe that Binand, Bish and Suresh etc are vanished from this forum - just remembering the old timers !
