[LIP] Infrared / LIRC source, anyone?

Hi friends,

Does anyone know about commonly available Infrared devices that I can use on 
my PC with LIRC (http://www.lirc.org)? I am here at Nagpur and probably I'll 
have to ask somebody to get it from wherever it's available, so please also 
mention address/phone/price if possible.

If somebody can mention how was the experience with writing programs using 
LIRC, it would be helpful. Thanks.
