Hi! Everyone

What tools will be most suitable for a platform
independent, database oriented application. My
requirements are as following
1)it will have components distributed on network.
2)it will have to update db in real time
3)it will have a good GUI(which cannot be web based,
and need to have accelrator keys)
4)it will be open source based on open source tools.

I know java can provide all this but i am sckeptic
about using java, due to its slow speed and
difficultly in designing GUI.
Any other suggestion or pointers. I had googled on
this topic but no combination seems satisfactory.

with regards
vivek
