Hi.
Thanks a lot for your reply. The statistics are very much revealing. The
hardware is fixed in my case. It is Matrox P650 card. Can you give some info
about the drivers you used? Were they the default drivers provided by Linux,
or did you get them from the card manufacturer?
Where can I get optimized drivers?

I think a lot of it depends on the kind of hardware/drivers you are using...

I had a lot of problems with watching tv on my old TNT2 card... and I was
told by the developer of tvtime to run the following test on my box.. I've
since bought a new machine with a GF4-MX440.. and the performance is
amazing!

So try running your program of different hardware configs before judging the
best solution.

Loads of numbers from the tests I ran on my old box and my new one are at
the
end of this mail so that you can get an idea of the kind of difference in
perforamce that is possible.(I get 5x boost in speed inspite of going up
from
16bit to 24bit! )
