[LIP] Problem in making a test bootable OS

Hi,
I was trying to code my own Bootable os by reading the article at
linux gazette http://linuxgazette.net/issue77/krishnakumar.html
apparently the article is only for Intel processors( its says it will
work for 8086 as well as p4), I tried to create the boot floppy as
directed on my AMD athlon. The booting failed. Is the booting sector
code for AMD Athlon different from the given code, if yes can someone
tell me how to make a bootable OS in AMD Architecture.
