Kernel Walkthrough: Source Tree Layout Speaker: Bart Trojanowski Bart was watching some Google Tech Talk videos, while his code was compiling, when he ran across SVLUG's "Kernel Walkthrough" on youtube. Thinking that this was an amazing idea, he wanted to reproduce the event for OCLUG. The plan is to make this a regular event, and to invite some of the real kernel hackers (from Ottawa and maybe abroad) to give talks. Future sessions could examine other pieces of software. For now we will concentrate on the heart of Linux. In the first session Bart will describe the layout of the Linux source tree, main types of files, and then let the audience steer the direction of the rest of the meeting. Presented with questions, he will try to point out and discuss how different parts of the kernel work. Bart hopes that this meeting will attract people of different levels of knowledge and different areas of expertise, with individuals taking the floor to answer questions in their area of the kernel. About the Speaker Bart Trojanowski is a Linux kernel hacker, currently self employed working for clients seeking Linux development and consulting services (www.jukie.net). When not hacking Linux drivers and embedded systems, he enjoys playing with his two kids. See http://www.jukie.net/~bart/ for more info.
