Last I checked, amavis didn't use spamd, but loaded SA directly. 
However, it's been a long, long time since I've touched amavis, so I 
could be way off base.

There's a number of places to check for configuration, and it's possible 
that the OP changed the configuration in a place that is ignored by 
amavis.  Again, it's been a while, but I know that amavis can hold SA 
configuration; is it possible that amavis needs to be updated as well? 
What about per-user preferences; are they overriding the defaults?
