Fedora-10 Internet Access difficulties

I blew away my Fedora-core6 in favour of a fresh install of Fedora-10. Some things have been as much fun as pursuing a raw egg (w/o shell) around the kitchen floor. One of the issues is my Internet access from that box. Although there is the wee icon that shows that I have eth0 connected, and I can interact with other boxes on my LAN via the Thomson Speedtouch router, I cannot "see" the Internet from the F-10 box. (BTW SELINUX prevents my ftp'ing into this box (text or GUI), but I can ftp to other boxes. SELINUX is next on my list of things to learn.) The "Connection Information" for eth0 shows lots of the usual (IP address, default route), but Firefox (and ping, traceroute) give me messages like "can't find the server at ...", "unknown host", "Temporary failure in name resolution". What is/are the most common newbie oversight(s) that might explain this? I _know_ I'm going to fool feelish when you tell me!
