Re: Fedora-10 Internet Access difficulties

Gentlemen::

Progress became negative. Things tried/done:

    * SELINUX set to "Permissive" (still wouldn't let me ftp or ssh into
      this box)
    * Thinking that "NetworkManager" and "network" might have been
      dueling, I selectively disabled them. Both were then restored to
      "Enabled" and "Running", but "No network connection" in the
      top-bar was the  network-icon mouse-over message.
    * network icon disappeared when NetworkManager was stopped, but
      reappeared (with wee red "x-box" when restarted).

In retrospect, networking functioned before my intervention, albeit 
"without DNS", when I used the actual dotted quads, as Raj suggested.

Prompted by your message I edited
/etc/sysconfig/networking/profiles/default/ifcfg-eth0
changing line NM_CONTROLLED=no to "yes" restored networking (red x-box 
gone). Still no "DNS" ...

Then taking a hint from resolv.conf  (cat follows):

I then further desecrated ifcfg-eth0 so that ('tail' follows)

I don't know if the latter is overkill, but I can now surf, look for 
system updates, and was able to install a favorite application. (The DNS 
numbers were copied from my hardware router web-interface screen.)

Bill, I can now ssh and ftp in, although SELINUX flashes the warning 
about permissiveness (previously blocking ftp attempts).
