Router problem

Last time I set up my router (a DI-604) I had no trouble at all as it
went smoothly and I got my network up and running in a few minutes. This
time, however, after having had to purchase a new ADSL modem, I'm blowed
if I can get it working. I can get the ADSL working OK on a dedicated
link but, as soon as I try to hook up the router, I can't get anywhere.
I recently forked out $90.00 to someone listed in the yellow pages as
Linux friendly etc., but he was unable to get my router working.
On the face of it, it's very simple as all one has to do is address the
router, go through its setup wizard and, theoretically, it will get set
up in no time. Not now.
Has anyone any clue as to something essential that I am missing out
during the install precess? I can address the router OK on
http://192.168.0.1 as instructed in the manual, but, after that, I can
go through all the setup wizard and it all appears OK but I simply
cannot get onto the Internet. When I try to activate the network, the
system won't let me, even working as super user.
I am now lost as I've spent since February 1st trying to fix this
problem. It all happened after a power spike made my ADSL modem indicate
"ALM". I reset everything, but to no avail. I even did a re-install of
Fedora 10 just in case.
My wife is desperate to get her e-mail and send out data to some
committee members who are waiting for her communication.
If anyone is able either (a) to guide me via instructions via this
e-mail site or (b) by phone or (c) by a short visit to my Bridlewood
home, I should very much appreciate it.
My ADSL modem is a GNet model GBB2060-XI and a similar unit was working
OK before.
Does anyone know if Bell has changed something on their site which
prevents me getting my connection working?
