Apologies if it's considered bad form to post job postings on this list. I seem to remember it being fine years ago but things may have changed. Presumably my job posting will show up on http://oclug.on.ca/jobs/ after someone approves it. In the meantime (and for those that don't check the jobs page): Gaming Solutions, located in Ottawa, is a leading provider of software to the online gaming industry. Our products are used by tens of thousands of people worldwide and our software handles over 50M transactions every month with volume doubling annually. Our small and efficient team constantly produces industry-leading products. We have developed a system using the LAMP stack that has scaled well and handles complex calculations on a dataset in the hundreds of gigabytes. Specifically, we use MySQL with replication, PHP with APC, memcached, custom Linux kernels and LVS. The successful candidate will have experience working with all of these packages. We are looking for an experienced systems administrator to join our team. As described above, we work with Linux, Apache, PHP, MySQL and other open-source technologies. The successful candidate will have professional experience administering LAMP systems and will be responsible for maintaining a cluster of 25 machines running Debian and a mixture of Apache, postfix, MySQL and LVS. Programming skill in a popular scripting language is required and knowledge of probability and statistics is an asset. Mandatory Requirements: ·Bachelor's degree or diploma in a related field ·5 or more years of professional systems administrator experience ·Demonstrable skill in a popular scripting language ·Enthusiasm for solving problems ·Experience in administering mission-critical, fault-tolerant systems ·Developing and implementing security and back-up policies; and ·Configuration/patch/change management. Knowledge & Skills: ·Work experience with large-scale web projects, preferably financial-based ·Strong, proven scripting skills ·Experience in formal software engineering practices, including QA and testing ·Working knowledge of security-related best practices ·Excellent UNIX knowledge Work is full-time, on-site, in office space located in the Hintonburg area (Ottawa).
