I certainly can do 1) and 2), having been in OCLUG for many years, and done presentations of my own. AS for 3), I also have *some* background in virtualization. If you think I can do it, please let me know and I should be able to do it with not too much problem. Have a nice day :-) JF http://www.franconerd.com http://www.messier.ca -------- Original Message -------- Subject: [oclug] help needed for OCLUG meeting Thursday Sep 3 From: R RENAUD <[email protected]> Date: Mon, August 31, 2009 4:21 pm To: [email protected] Hi, Unfortunately, I'm unable to attend this months OCLUG meeting in room T117 at Algonquin College. 1) We need a master of ceremonies for the meeting to: - Welcome people to the meeting. - Ask an icebreaker question. Eg: Do you use a special purpose or general purpose Linux distro. - Announce the back to school with Linux event. (See the OCLUG web page for details.) - Ask if there are any other announcements that might be of interest to the group. - Announce that October OCLUG meeting is a panel discussion on Virtualization. Ask potential volunteers to identify themselves. - Announce the speakers for the 2 talks. SED stream editor - part 2 - Steve Lusk - approx 45 minutes Music Production Distros - Mike Keller - 45 - 60 minutes - Inform people about the beer sig at Chances R. I can make the usual reservation. 2) Mike Keller will be using OpenOffice Impress with his presentation but doesn't have a portable computer. I was going to loan him mine but... Can someone provide him with a computer and assistance to display his notes? He'll be bringing his notes on a USB memory stick. The other speaker, Steve Lusk isn't running OpenOffice on his machine. 3) The OCLUG meeting on Thursday Oct 1 is planned to be a panel discussion on Virtualization. Can the people who are somewhat knowledgeable on the topic meet shortly before the beer sig to determine who would be on the panel and co-ordinate what they have knowledge of? We need: - An intro on what virtualization is and why it's used. (I could give this if people want me to.) - Three to five panel members who know about one or more of these virtualization methods: VMware, Xen, KVM, Virtual Box, (and others?) Any volunteers? thanks roland -- OCLUG general discussion list [email protected] http://oclug.on.ca/mailman/listinfo/oclug -- OCLUG general discussion list [email protected] http://oclug.on.ca/mailman/listinfo/oclug
