FWIW, FreeNet does not prohibit servers, which Sympatico does. They even

I also have Sympatico email addresses by virtue of reverting my DSL 
service with them to "Occasional Use Dial-up" which costs approx the 
differential between the two DSL services. I went through the pophm/etc 
exercise months ago, with Thunderbird (e.g. pophm.sympatico.ca port 995 
with SSL for my Sympatico addresses). Of course outgoing mail is SMTP 
(mail.ncf.ca port 465 with SSL).

Because I have been spending a lot of time visiting Windsor, and the 
Sympatico roving dial-up on occasion cost me over $20 additional in 
excess usage time, I had Teksavvy "lite" installed at Mother-in-Law's 
(MIL) house. Fast, fast relief from dial-up hassles! I was prepared to 
live with a 512k down/up speed, but using a site such as 
http://speedtest.teksavvy.com/ revealed that I was getting 1024/512 
kbps. Thanks, folks.

And I leave the modem etc there for other out-of-town relatives to use, 
to encourage more frequent visits by them to MIL - A much-appreciated 
incentive for them!
