Hey folks,

Been searching for a definitive howto on setting up sendmail
authentication. Basically, I want to log into my sendmail from a remote
ISP to send email. Box is a ubuntu 9.04 server. The following is
installed:

$ dpkg -l | grep sasl
ii  libsasl2-2                        2.1.22.dfsg1-23ubuntu3
ii  libsasl2-modules                  2.1.22.dfsg1-23ubuntu3
$ dpkg -l | grep sendmail
ii  sendmail                          8.14.3-6
ii  sendmail-base                     8.14.3-6
ii  sendmail-bin                      8.14.3-6
ii  sendmail-cf                       8.14.3-6

I know I'll probably need to install other packages.

The various howto's I've found seem to deal with compiling all or most of
the above, including GCC, etc., which I obviously would rather not do
(I prefer to let the system manage itself).

I'm also not going to implement the "full enchilada" of what I can do with
sendmail authentication... just want to be able to login and secure that
login from evesdropping.

Any help or pointers to relevant readme's (ie: those geared toward
using the system's packages vs compiling from scratch) would be
appreciated!

Cheers!
Jon
