Hi Stephen,

Interesting thought, though that would be a maintenance headache for all 
but the simplest of packages.  In my case, I'm packaging both gsoap and 
net-snmp ('cause we've hacked it up), ntp (same reason) and probably 
other things I've forgotten about.  gsoap might be somewhat manageable 
(lots of files though I suspect they don't change much between releases) 
but net-snmp would be awful to maintain that way - lots of bins, libs, 
manpages, headers, perl junk, etc.

You've given me some ideas though on generating some of these files 
automatically... I can put the maintenance of the control file, for 
example, into a script rather than a doc or cvs managed directory tree.
