You have a valid point. However, and this is my case, I really like the
webmail solution, as I can read saved messages from anywhere. And once a
message has been read on my main PC at home, I still can read it form,
say, work, or my portable computer. 

However, I woul dlike to get to another webmail service, that could
perhaps offer me more flexibility. Does nay one know of an installatble
webmail service I could setup, which would retrieve my email using POP3
and present it the way I want it, under Linux ? That would be great !!!

I used to think so... I've since changed my mind. Plain text offers
little ability to enrich an email (to resemble a document) beyond basic
ascii art or simple attachments. No clickable links, text emphasis 
(bold, italic, headers, etc), embedded media or custom stationary. IMO 
(which won't be shared by all, I know that), plaintext-only email is a 
holdover from 10+ years ago... in the same spirit, why not stick with 
basic carburetors on cars - they're simple and they work, right? Who 
needs that fancy gizmo gadgetry fuel injection?

I guess I no longer believe in catering to the lowest common 
denominator. Bandwidth is cheap today, we all run GUIs and can run GUI 
email clients that can display html emails. Evolve, upgrade... or be 
left behind.

Again, just my opinion. I'm not throwing this out to generate a flame
war, rather, it's just a very simple observation of the inevitable 
progress in computing.
