ClamAV is usually as responsive as most commercial AV products, for example. One thing to keep in mind when looking at an AV product for Linux: does the provider actually _have_ AV signatures/heuristics for Linux? Some are purely a Linux build of their Windows AV engine intended to scan for Windows viruses (on a fileserver, firewall, email filter, etc).
