(AFAIK, Ubuntu 10.04 and Fedora 13 will deprecate HAL). That web page on writing udev rules is also a bit old and some info it provides may not be valid. The best source of info on udev is the linux hotplug mailing list. You can read it via gmane [http://dir.gmane.org/gmane.linux.hotplug.devel].
