Open source, security-focused Qubes OS hits alpha
Apr. 7, 2010 (12:53 pm) By: Matthew Humphries
[...]
Based on Xen, X Windows System, and Linux, Qubes OS is all about
providing the user with an ultra-secure desktop experience. It
achieves this by treating everything in isolation and using
virtualization technology.
[...]
A Qubes OS user can create a separate virtual machine for doing their
shopping online, accessing banking, or for creating documents. If
during your shopping online a virus manages to manifest itself, it
cannot infect the main system, or access your banking session, as
everything is a separate VM in its own sandbox. For the user there is
very little difference to a normal OS as Qubes OS still features
copy-pasting and data transfers as you would expect, the only
difference is it is all done as secure transfers between VMs.
