Hi Mark,

I believe minicom and putty are both command line utilities. You should
be able to run them by launching Terminal and typing the command.

For more info on using the utility, type in: 
$ man minicom
or
$ man putty

Don't be afraid of the Terminal, it is easier and more powerful than
DOS. HyperTerminal on Windows XP implements a GUI (Graphical User
Interface) on top of command line. It is still a command line utility if
you look at it from a different perspective.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure if there are any HyperTerminal like utility on
Linux and I assume putty is the closest. (I've used HyperTerminal on
Windows XP before, but that was so long ago)
