foot pedal for transcriptions?

Have any of you used something like this?  I'm interested in doing 
transcriptions -- sometimes spoken language, sometimes music -- and I need 
to be able to jump back a second or two, repeat, etc.  Basically, what I 
want is to be able to do a few typical VLC shortcuts by pressing something 
with my foot.

...but it's made for YouTube videos and the price is about double what I 
would have expected.

I want something that will work with VLC and Linux.
